Just ordered one through dell with a 20% off coupon. I've been drooling over DSLR cameras for a while, either the 350d or 30d, because I do want to learn about photography and get great images. I never jumped in to buy one though because I've also been thinking a lot about how bulky they'd be traveling and how much it would suck to have one stolen. Finally went with the SD700 because you could put it in a pocket, the price is right, and after looking at some reviews the image quality is acceptable.

Hoping it'll be here by next week when I head up the coast.

The SD700 is definitely top notch so you did well! COngrats! The built-in IS feature is great.

Make sure to post any photos you take, too.

Ok so I've had the camera about two weeks now. I took a trip up the california coast (San Luis Obispo/Morro Bay, Big Sur, Monterey, Santa Barbara) and here's some of the results. By the way, the hostel in San Luis Obispo is really good. Two thumbs up.

At the aquarium:

There's something about this photo I really like. The full image doesn't seem as dark.
