I was gonna buy a digi camera but my Dad has made a big thing of giving me his old one as a gift. I'm obviously really grateful but I kinda thought I would get something with more pixels etc.. He's given me a Sony Cybershot P72 3.1 megapixel, 3 x optical zoom. I've literally got it today so I'm trying to figure it all out. Is this enough pixels/zoom etc??

Thanks

Take some pictures and see how they turn out! Smile

Make sure you see what options there are to take night shots too. During my trip this summer I only had a 2.1 MP camera and my pictures are ok, but could've been so much better. They don't look very good when blown up to 1600x1200 resolution on my computer monitor.

Night shots is very important as you'll have many opportunities to capture beautiful moments like sunsets and city skylines at night. When I was at Paris, my pictures of all the beautiful lights I experienced in person didn't really come out in the pictures I took...

If you are only going to post to the web: Yes

If you want quality prints of anything other than 'small', then probably not.

5mp cameras are a commodity these days...then again, free is free Big Grin

Thanks for your replies...

LiveNomadic that site you suggested is wicked - loads of info on cameras and photography tips. It seems like this guy Dave has tested out practically every camera on the market! My camera performed OK for a 3.2 mp according to him, but there were a few criticisms of it on the Sony forum... BUT I guess a lot of these people are well into photography so maybe they're overcritical (?)

Joe thanks, your decisiveness is reassuring.

Stuinzuri I know there are probably gonna be a few pics I'd like to enlarge, and this camera will prob rule that out. But I can still have regular prints... and I AM saving money by sticking with this camera...

I think.... Confused
