Hey everyone I'm looking for travel suggestions near Berlin. I'm currently living in Berlin and despite how great a city it is and the endless amounts of distractions and happenings, I'm looking to get away for a few days. I am in the middle of writing a thesis and am unmotivated! If you've ever had to write a massive paper, you know what it's like to be stuck. I'm hoping to unstuck myself by getting away for a bit!

I'm thinking of hanging out somewhere small, maybe in a village, maybe on the coast of Germany, or somewhere small in Czech Republic or Hungary as they are country neighbors and relatively cheap. I've been to the nearby major cities, so I'm not looking to do that.

Anyone have a recommendation of a village, town or place to stay (cool hostel, cozy bed and breakfast) that is off the beaten path near this area? I know there are little places hidden between all the big places, I just don't know where they are at yet! Suggestions are much appreciated.

----- If you live in Oregon, there is a place called Sylvia Beach hotel in Newport, and I'm looking for something similar to that. And if that doesn't make any sense to you, then ignore this... oh and if you ARE going to Oregon be SURE to stay there http://www.sylviabeachhotel.com/

Łeba is Poland might be something you're lloking for. It's popular in summer but if you go now, it'll be quiet and peaceful.

Oops!
Was too quick to press the "send" button.
You can take a train to Szczecin - very short trip from Berlin, and another one to Gdansk, via Leba.
Here's where you can book hotel

Or you could take a train to Wroclaw and then go to somewhere in the Lower Silesian countryside. If you're interested, I know a Belgian guy who renovated a castle in Wlen, near Jelenia Gora, who has guestrooms too. Or you could go to Szklarska Poreba in the Karkonosze mountains near the Czech border (if you don't mind loads of German tourists). I stayed at a little pension there, called Pension Lider, which cost 50 zloty for a comfy single room (in 2004), including free internet. If you want to stay in Germany, Regensburg in Bavaria is lovely and I've heard good things about Rügen island too.

I've also heard good things about Ruegen. Even the city of Rostock might be a nice change. There are good hostels there, also there is a ferry to Gedser, Denmark that takes under 2 hours.

Have you been to Görlitz? I know it's not on the coast and (just) still in Germany but it's a nice little place - very relaxing Smile

You can use a Brandenburg ticket to get to Szcecin. It's only 2 hours away, 5 people can go on one ticket, and it's only €26, but it's a day ticket, so you need to come back that day. Or buy 2, and use the other to come back a different day. If you go with others, it's dirt cheap.
