I just purchased a ticket on Air New Zealand from LAX to Heathrow. It was the cheapest ticket I've found, by far: $670 for September/October travel. Is this too good to be true?

I just bought LAX to LHR too, and paid $625 through Air Canada, but Air NZ was the second cheapest. Ticket is for April 29th - June 12th, so not peak season but kinda close.

I'd been watching it, it got as cheap as $525 non stop, believe it or not! But I think $670 is a good price too.

It seems that spring travel is a tad cheaper than early fall. $525 would be a gift! I'm just hoping Air NZ isn't a flake airline. I don't know anyone who has flown on it. The reviews I've read are decent, but a 10+ hour flight might require more than decent. I hope you have a fun trip! How much traveling are your going to do once you arrive in London?

Ha, well certianly more than I should Smile
I'll probably end up doing 7 countries in 6 weeks... yikes.

And I think NZ will be just fine, I had a friend fly them (I think) to get to NZ and he didn't seem to have any complaints... I'd go for it.

Considering it's non-refundable, I kind of have to go for it. Smile As long as I don't have a screaming kid behind me, I should be okay, no matter what airline I'm on.

It sounds like you're going to have your hands full once you get to Europe. Quite the whirlwind. I'm sure it'll be a blast!

Being a Kiwi I have flown Air NZ several times and they are one of the best around (I am not biased!) From NZ they are also one of the most expensive, but I think you will find the crew and the service excellent. Hope you enjoy your flight and wish that we could get them that cheap over here.

Thanks, Kiwi. That's good to hear. After looking on review sites, it seems like they've improved drastically over the past few years. Most of the poor ratings were from around '04/'05. Not too many bad words from over the past couple years.

I was shocked when I saw how cheap that ticket was. I'm still waiting for the catch.

Air NZ is by no means a flake airline! It's actually really good. And coming from an Aussie, that's a huge compliment.

I flew a similar route with similar price (around $670) on ANZ in March, but it was from Hong Kong to London. Most of my Asian friends didn't even know you can fly from Hong Kong to London on ANZ. I guess it is because the distance between Auckland and London is so far that the plane has to stop somewhere, then they figured out they can fly AUK-LAX-LON and also AUK-HKG-LON! And they do offer great price!

I was actually choosing Air NZ intentionally (not only because it is cheaper than Cathay and BA) because I knew it is a Top 10 ranked airline. It turned out the food and wine is great (better than any you can find among North American airlines), entertainment choices are plentiful. Unfortunately, they did not offer any mileage for my Star Alliance account due to its low price Frown

Air NZ is good but when I flew them from NZ-LA they didnt have TV screens on the seats which sucks when you have a long flight. Other than that thats a good price however you should also checkout Air France. They were having special promotional rates for awhile. LA-LHR 42O dollars for everything including taxes. Non changeable whatsoever but OMG you can go to NYC for that price.

Joanw, I caught a special on Air France for something like $640. It was literally the day I started looking at flights. The special was up that night, and after that, I spent weeks trying to find a ticket that was even remotely within range. I never saw that special posted on Air France again, much less $420 (that is ridiculously cheap), but I flipped when I saw the $670 on Air New Zealand. I booked the ticket right then, no questions asked. I really do hope the screens work though. Smile

By the way, does anyone know of good seat options in Economy. I usually sit toward the back at a window.
