Can anyone recommend a decent hotel in Chisinau? Preferably smack in the middle of the centre?

I've been staying in Chisinau more and more of late, and have used the following apartment services:

Adresa -- www.adresa.md I stayed on Negruzzi, 5 min walk from train station and ten from the center. a 2 bdm apartment with hot water, full kitchen, A/C was 70 Euros a night.

Marisha -- www.marisha.net I got a great 1 bdm apartment with kitchen, hot water and 5 min walk from the central rinok and bus station for 70 USD a night.

Hotel Turist -- Soviet-style accommodation, I haven't stayed there in a few years but it is central and cheap.

I find I prefer getting an apartment. The few hotels are much too expensive (except the Turist and maybe a couple others), and I like cooking what I can buy in the market. Check online for other apartment offers, I've seen studios for about $40/night. You want to be on Stefan cel Mare Blvd or close to it, or close to the rinok (market). The Botanica neighborhood is OK but a bit far to hoof it.

A life well lived must accept some risk.

The cheap place to stay is Zarea Hotel. Its near the center (walkable) but in a nice area. It is a two star hotel that offers good service. There is TV in the room. Bathrooms are shared, but clean. The staff does not speak much English, but are helpgul. The cost is about $20/double. I think its $12 for a single.

Its located at Anton Pann #4. You have to pass through a walkway on the side of a technical school to get there but you can see its sign atop the hotel building.
