Andrassy ut is one of the most beautiful roads in the world- and the whole street is a UNESCO world heritage sight. The castle is cool. Visit the baths. Play some chess. Go caving. Visit the castle. So much to do!

The Octagon section is very lively with restaurants and bars. Some good places-
The Old Man's Pub
Szimpla Kent
Morrison's Music
New West Balkans
Koblong Potkolicks
Sarh
Castro
Godor

-some of those are misspelled. People wrote down recommendations, and I can't make out all the writing

Cafe M for food

And learn how to say Egeszsegedre!

Walk about the center.

See the Chain Bridge. It never ceases to amaze me after many times visiting it.

In the summer, there are often weekend festivals by the bridges between Buda and Pest.

Budapest is a huge city with so much to see and do. With your limited time, I'd spend it mostly on the Pest side. Not sure what your specific interests are, but here's a suggested itinerary:

1st day
(morning)
-start on Raday Utca street (cafe-line street, could have breakfast)
-head down to Great Market Hall (could pick up lunch for later)
-make your way down Vaci Utca (pedestrian street)
-check out Vorosmarty Square*
-head towards the Danube River to see the Chain Bridge**

(afternoon)
-visit St. Stephen's Basilica
-visit House of Terror museum (if you have time- it takes a while to get through it, but it's an amazing, informative experience)

(evening)
-head to Frank Liszt square for drinks/dinner at the many outdoor cafes
-OR you could try and see an opera at the Opera House (usually can get tickets the same day and very cheap balcony seats)

*from here, you could also visit the Great Synagogue
**from here, you could cross over the Chain Bridge to Buda and visit the Buda Palace, have a picnic lunch at the overlook

2nd day
(morning)
-the Baths (I went to Szechenyi Spa Baths and enjoyed it very much- a true local experience!)

(afternoon)
-anything you didn't get to the 1st day

Have fun-

You should get a Budapest Card. You get free travel on every public transport, you get a map and a booklet.

I've been to Budapest 2 times already. I've loved pretty much everything about it. Don't miss: Heroes Square, The Citadel, The Royal Palace - which is on Castle Hill and you've got a ton of things to do there! You can also visit Margitsziged (Margit Island). The church in the rock (Well it's in a cave) is right opposite Gellert Hotel and then you can climb up to the Citadel from there.LOVELY!

I'd suggest to avoid Castle Hill when you want to eat/drink. Even water is super expensive there. Oh! In most places you have to add 10% to the bill which is the service charge. It's on the bill though but be careful when you read it [it's written in smaller print than the price wt/out it].

By all means try Gulyas (Gu-i-a-sh)...THE Hungarian staple dish. It can be made from anything from fish to pork or chicken.

Many ppl won't speak ANY English so if you have a small travel guide wt phrases it's just grade. They do speak English in major hotels and restaurants though.

Ask away if you want to know anything specific.

I recommend a river cruise in the evening. Of course, it is touristy, but it is a good way to see the sites from a nice vantage point and to learn a little bit of history.
