Hello, I need to get from Santorini to Ankara, Turkey. Flights seem pretty pricey. Any ideas if it is better to go by boat (if possible) or maybe another departure airport. Any ideas would really help thanks.

It's easy to do. How much time do you have?

If you Google Greeek Ferries, you'll find lots of charts showing where they go. We went from Mykonos to Samos, then Samos to Kusadasi in Turkey (near Ephesus). Once in Turkey you'll have scores of options.

Samos was nice - we found great food in the villages, it was less touristed than other places, and there were some fun, smaller sites to explore. You'll want a car; I don't think you'll see much with public transport.

Other connections I know of from Rhodes to Fethiye, and Lesvos to ... Izmir? I forget.

I have about three days, did you have any luck with any particular sites?

3 days from Santorini to Ankara!!!! No way, hombre.

Greek Ferries is a messy site but has the info on inter-island travel.

Greek Travel pages helps if you know your end points.

Turkey Travel Planner can't be beat for getting to and around in Turkey.

Why Ankara if you only have three days? If Ankara is a base, then fine. If you fly out 3 days after leaving Santorini then it seems like a silly journey. It would be all boats and buses. It would be easier to just head back to Athens. If it must be Turkey, then Antalya is on the coast and is a major air hub. Even then, you'd have no time to enjoy it.

But even Antalya would take three days of just traveling to get to.
