Holds PhD in Packing

Now I know neither of these are exactly exciting options for us travellers, but I am meeting a friend who now lives in Germany and they are the only cheap places we can both fly to over a bank holiday weekend!

So, I'd love to hear where people would recommend we stay (particularly for Alicante - NOT Benidorm!) and any tips for things to do.

We are only there for 4 nights but we both enjoy a bit of sight-seeing or driving out to beaches/villages (?) and we love eating local food with locals!!

Ideas please BnA...

Thanks x

My husband and I spent two days in Alicante a couple weeks ago. We booked our accommodations the night before, so there weren't too many options available, but we ended up in a terrific place. We stayed in Hotel Castilla Alicante, which was expensive by our standards (25EUR per person per night for a twin room) but the room was unexpectedly phenomenal. Enormous bedroom, huge nice bathroom, and a big balcony (complete with a table and chairs) with a view of the sea on our left. If you're into beaches, it was also less than a 2 minute stroll to the beach. The only downside for us was that its in-house restaurant was terrible, but who wants to eat in a hotel when on vacation, right?
