Hello Boots Travelers. I was supposed to have umlauts over the 'a' in Lander, but cannot get my computer to comply.

Anyway, i just found out about these wonderful zone passes through the various German states on the Deutsche Bahn website. My German isn't good enough to get the finer points about the usage of these, so I am asking the forum is there are any any pratfalls that i may be overlooking.

I am taking 18 people from Warnemunde (again no umlauts) to Berlin for a day tour off a ship in July. I think the way I need to do this is to buy a local fare as fare as Waren, then can use the Lander Passes for the two states I will be traveling through for the day. Each pass allows up to 5 travelers on the same ticket. If I do this, I am buying tickets for less than 1/2 the normal fare. (I have to originate with a local ticket because the Lander Pass doesn't kick in until 9:00am and we must take the 8am train out of our port.

Can I buy these online and print them here? Anything else I may be missing? These deals are almost too good to be true.

Its not an illusion. One ticket serves for up to 5 people for a given trip up to the limits of the german region. One can go across Germany the slow way on this ticket.

I always bought mine at the train station the day before for convenience sake. It would cost more to mail them to you in the USA than you would save. So, get to the station and buy one.

We went from Stuttgart to the swiss border on one of these tickets, a four hour ride, two of us on one ticket.

it was dirt cheap compared to normal fares.

Thanks for the confirmation. I wanted to hear from a second source that had used the tickets before pulling the trigger. I ordered them online to have them sent to me here. I am responsible for 16 other people in my party and we will be in a rush to get off the boat and on the train, so I did it that way.

Looking forward to the trip. I saved about $70 per person off the lowest rates I was finding on the DB site. Since there were no ICE trains on our schedule anyway, we're not even sacrificing any time with the reduction. Glad I was poking around today to find these fares. More Bier money is always a good thing.

Well, some more little details...

On the weekend there are no 9AM restrictions. (Midnight Saturday to 3:00 AM Monday is, for instance, possible on one ticket.) On the weekend you can also buy a similar ticket which is valid throughout the entire country for a similar price. (also still only on R, RE, IRE, S, Metronom, etc local trains)

The Berlin-Brandenburg-Ticket is also valid on all BVG (Berlin Public Transport).
