I arrive into Ciampino(CIA) airport on Ryan Air and catch a connecting flight at Fiumicino(FCO) airport the next day.

Is it easy to get to/from the city from both airports? or should i look at an airport hotel and just go direct from airport to airport?

It's pretty easy and have a look at www.adr.it for detail,
direct bus in to central railway E7.5 and express train out E9.5, but just keep your wits about you when catching the train to make sure the Italians have got correct info across as to which platform and train.
In my case it was a bit of mayhem, but then if you see a whole heap if people with luggage, you'll know you have a 50% chance of being right.
I'd certainly take the opportunity to have a night in Rome.
