I'm gping to be traveling through Europe in July. I was wondering what is the cheapest way of traveling. Trains or planes? I have no set schedule. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks Jen

It depends on which countries you plan to visit? When I was in Europe 3 years ago, I trained it for the most part except I took a plane from Frankfurt to Venice, and another plane from Prague to Amsterdam. Check out flight companies such as ryanair or skyeurope, as well as the local rail websites for each respective country, such as bahn.de for Germany.

Hey, Jen. I think it all depends on where you go. Do you have a general idea of countries you plan on seeing?

To start, try doing a search on the boards for 'dicount airlines' or 'europe airlines/flights'. There are a lot of threads on this subject and lots of links. Plug in some dates and countries to a site and see what prices you get.

european discount airlines can be pretty cheap and save time. it all depends on what day you go and such. i'd sya just whenever you want to move on, compare both prices and go with the cheapest. I once got a plane from rome to venie for 30 euros while the train was 60 euros and took 4x as long

i'll be in europe this summer too! where you going?

I suggest a mix of the two. Remember, while flights may sometimes seem shorter, you have to factor in the airport time, too. And, the train is a great way to see things, meet people, relax. If you have no time constraints, I heavily suggest taking the train whenever possible...it is also a more "green" solution. To me, the cheap flights are only necessary when you are on a tight timeline (i.e. have two weeks of vacation, etc.) or it is a really long distance.

If you choose to fly, check www.harefares.com to find budget airlines throughout Europe. This site was essential to my recent trip.
