I am heading to Barcelona next week and was hoping for some first hand recommendations in Barcelona. Cheap being the most important quality after being nearly bug-free.

Lots of hostels along Las Ramblas, you don't even need to worry about it. Beds about 15EUR.

Be careful with your things on the street..

Lots on the ramblas, but lots of people complain about the beds being expensive, I've heard of the cheapest being 18 euros, but cant speak first hand on this because I lived there and rented a room.

Check http://www.bugeurope.com for reviews.

Trying to repurpose an old thread.

Looking for a decent place to stay. Would like a private room, not too expensive, en suite would be nice, but not an absolute requirement. Would also like a place where I can meet other travelers...

I have checked out the Gothic Point, Barcelona Dream, etc.; none have private rooms. I stayed at the Kabul last time and it was gross, no thanks!

We just came from Barcelona a week and a half ago. We booked ahead of time with hostelworld and stayed at Paraiso Travellers Hostel and loved it. Excellent smaller rooms, common room with satellite tv, really helpful staff, and very clean. We kept extending our stay we enjoyed it so much.

What we did find out once we got to Barcelona is that it's a backpacker's city with hostels everywhere. Walking around Las Ramblas (the main tourist road) we must have passed at least 30 hostels. So you could always book a hostel for one night just to be safe and then hunt around once you're there.

Thanks, moniak...I saw those apartments yesterday but they are way out of my budget (they're running about 100$/night).

Thanks, Miss. It looks like they don't have single rooms (I could pay double for a room, but...not really in the budget). I have been to Barca a few times, so am familiar with the proliferation of hostels...but I'm not really a backpacker anymore, so the dorms don't work for me.

You don't want hostels but you do want cheap?

What is your budget?

I can recommend this place for location http://www.hotelaneto.com/?mnu=price

i just looked at eurocheapo briefly

not sure what 'hostals' are but they are cheap
plus several places with prices for singles for the same price as my 27 bed dorm room in Barcelona - i paid 27 euros to share a room with 26 others back in 2005

Hostels are fine if there are private rooms. No more dorm rooms for me; been there, done that.

When I looked at Eurocheapo, the least expensive price I was quoted was almost 100$/night. I have found some others much less expensive, am just looking for options. Trying to keep it to 50$/night, private room, en suite not necessary. I have found a few, so I know they exist! I like hearing where people have stayedSmile

I booked at the Hostal Levante (www.hostallevante.com).

I also found a site that had a TON of places on the inexpensive side: www.barcelona30.com

I didn't book through them, but they had quite a bit, with private rooms around 35E (single, no bathroom).
