My friend and I will be going to Greece for 11 days in late August. What are the best islands to go to in the Cyclades? So far, our plan is to check out Santorini and Mykonos. Any reviews on Naxos, Ios, or Paros? Is Ios a party island? We want our vacation to be very leisurely and laid back.

I've only been to Naxos and Mykonos.

I can highly recommend Naxos. It's awesome. I found the whole island to just be pretty laid back, the pace of life was pleasant, and prices reasonable. Also, there was an outdoor movie theatre that was a great evening activity. We stayed at the Naxos Windmill Apartments, which I highly recommend as a nice, quiet place on the edge of the main town (their website hasn't been updated with prices in a while, but they're also on the BnA hostel system).

Mykonos, I was unimpressed with. We were only their briefly, but the main town was disgustingly crowded with cruise ship traffic and horribly overpriced. Outside of the main town, it was beautiful, but I'm not sure any more so than other spots in the Cyclades, and still overpriced.

One of my coworkers worked for a couple of summers on Ios, and by her report it's definitely a party island. She says it was lovely in the spring when she arrived, but just gets destroyed by the summer invasion.

I will be doing this stuff and I will be doing nothing but nonstop drinking and partying!
