Ok, I'm a first time solo traveller from Australia - just wondering how others carried money for a two year trip to Europe. Did you take debit/credit cards, travellers cheques or anything else? Any advice gratefully accepted smile

If you're talking about working in London for some of that time, open a bank account with a British bank before leaving Australia. Pay is direct into the bank and opening an account in Britain or Ireland these days can be a real pain. They virtually demand your first born.

As for traveling, I always just rely on debit and credit cards. ATM machines make these very handy and you usually avoid fees this way. Traveler's cheques would definitely be preferable to cash, theft can be a big problem in Europe and cheques are replaceable. Money belts and neck pouchs are good way to keep valuables safe on the road, and most hostels can lock them up for you.
