I'm leaving for Prague in about a month, and I've gotten so much fantastic info from this board so I figured this would be the best place to find an antidote for my utter (and somewhat embarassing) lack of technological knowledge.
My American cell phone just broke, and as much as I wanted to buy a new one immediately, I slowed down since I don't know if it will be any good to me in a month's time. Do American cell phones work in Europe? Do I just need a new SIM card? Is it worth buying a new one now, knowing that I'll be canceling my plan and getting a new one in a new country? I've had the same phone/plan for like 5 years now and I'm totally clueless about how these things work. Any advice would be so appreciated.

get a quad band cell phone it can be used in any country, if you have insurance on your phone and it's a quad band cell phone then you'll be ok. you can just get a replacement or else you'll have to deal with get a phone that won't be of any use to you in a month time.

make sure your phone is unlocked. Buy a unlocked one or have your carrier unlock it. This is very important when you want a local SIM card then in Europe. Quadband phone is best, but triband is fine too most of the time.
