Holds PhD in Packing |
As some of you know I'm planning my RTW trip as a dive trip starting in February. Now I have my nice Canon 40D DSLR, but no underwater housing. I have so much stuff I want to take but a housing and strobes would add a LOT of weight plus take all the space in my bag. I already think I'll leave my BCD at home though.
On past trips I shot with my SD900 and housing, maybe I just take it with me. But the photo quality is so huge, I'd much rather have my SLR under water. How do you lug all your camera gear to far away destinations? |

I dont is the short answer -you can now get waterproof disposables which are good to about 10m. Otherwise I buy other people's good underwater photos - its just too hard to carry that stuff - or schedule your underwater adventure at the start of your trip and mail the gear home - or at the end and buy it at your destination

I agree. I have a point and shoot with an underwater housing (SD800) and that's what I take on trips, along with a mask. Carrying all the rest is just too much for a vacation. Of course, a diving-focused vacation would be different, but if you're taking a longer vacation that could involve some diving, taking all the other gear is too disruptive.
