Posting to ask if anyone has any experience with an IPOD touch on the road. It would be used as the primary storage device for all of my pictures and movies for my upcoming year long RTW trip, as well as a tradtional entertainment device. How does it stack up against other options for storage and entertainment and for those of you who have used it, would you recommend it? thanks for any response!

the ipod touch has no disk function so it may be complicated getting photos on to it at internet cafes, it does have wifi though which is useful in cities. i found a lot of free wifi in many cities.
personally if internet is not a concern, i would look at the larger ipods with 60- 80gig. you can still watch movies and photos and the disk function makes it like a big external drive

What blueatjustchill said is quite right, you should get something like 40GB or above. And it seems that recently the price for the iPod touch has dropped, I noticed deal on the 16GB iPod touch is $339, I remembered it was $399. So I guess you can find a even lower price for it somewhere.

I used my iPod Touch a month ago during a trip to Paris. Very useful tool to keep in touch with my friends (especially since traveling alone), check info while ”moving“ in the city and listen to music during the plane trip.

In a big city like Paris, it was really easy finding wireless connexions. However, Notre-Dame's was locked (see picture below)!

Ben.

I'm hopeful the applicability of the Touch and the iPhone for travel will change soon- with apple opening them up to other applications, soon you'll be able to use them as more general storage devices and who knows what else.

I find that the iPhone is really useful to me for quick checking email, etc. We'll see what its like out side the US, though.

Also, I expect that Apple will release 64GB touches probably late this fall or in January.
