I will be heading to india for the end of january and all of february. is a sleeping bag a necessary item or would a sleeping sheet suffice for the odd grimy place I run into? From what I have been reading here, sleeping bags are entirely unnecessary for SE, and since I will be there in march and april it will be very hot anyways. what about china though? would I need one there?

Rather depends where you're going I'd say. India is a big place. If you're up North, and travelling by sleeper train, say, then probably yes. If you're in Goa, probably no. China is bigger still. You see my point Wink

I was in India in late Oct/early Nov and on the sleeper trains between Delhi/Varanasi and Delhi/Kathgodam I could have done with my lightweight sleeping bag towards the end of the night, but made do with a silk sleep sheet and some judicious layering. If you're travelling AC class, then it becomes a non-issue. The sleep sheet itself will be a positive boon for certain establishments, definitely.

Have a great trip - dead jealous Smile
