Nalgene, the brand that popularized water bottles made from hard, clear and nearly unbreakable polycarbonate, will stop using the plastic because of growing concern over one of its
Nalgene brand water bottles had used bisphenol-a, which some studies in animals linked to hormonal changes. The decision by Nalgene Outdoor Products, a unit of Thermo Fisher Scientific, based in Rochester, came after reports that the Canadian government would declare the chemical bisphenol-a, or BPA, toxic. Some animal studies have linked the chemical to changes in the hormonal system. Those reports also prompted many of Canada’s largest retailers, including Wal-Mart Canada, to remove food-related products made with plastics containing the compound chemical, like baby bottles, toddler sipping cups and food containers, from their stores this week. “Based on all available scientific evidence, we continue to believe that Nalgene products containing BPA are safe for their intended use,” Steven Silverman, the general manager of the Nalgene unit, said in a statement. “However, our customers indicated they preferred BPA-free alternatives, and we acted in response to those concerns.” http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/18/business/18plastic.ht...d27cc4f86&ei=5087%0A Just so you know. |

You can always make your old Nalgene bottle into a bong.

Thats great... I wonder what bong water does to release the endocrine damaging substance, considering all the nasty acids, greases, and tars it probably contains? Has anyone done a ph test on bong water? Lets find out. Nothing in google on it. Guess it hasn't been a problem before. |

Most Nalgene products do not contain BPA. They have a handy chart here.

Great. Just buy the HDPE one then, until they find that one causes health problems.
Eventually, we'll have to go back to aluminum or water skins, which STILL do a great job. No ones yet found toxins in water skins or glass, anyways. So it looks like Nalgene is not going to go broke on this, and I expect HDPE milk bottles to appear soon as well. People LIKE the idea of a plastic that looks like glass, but its not necessary. The one thing they haven't figured out yet is how to get the BPA out of the liners for canned food. Apparently thats the new Tin. BTW' 90% of all americans tested in a random study had higher than expected levels of BPA in their blood, so the concern is not entirely baseless. How many strange chemicals DO we have floating around in our blood, anyways? Makes me want to be a vegan. |

I needed some new bottles anyway, so I went down to the REI and bought me 2 , 1 quart widemouth HDPE (white) Nalgene's.
regardless of what the outcome is, Nalgene still makes good inexpensive product. this is the price all of us pay when using petroleum based products. |

Sigg won't say. They maintain that it is a trade secret but that it is safe.
That is why I use and recommend the Klean Kanteen. |

Don't mean to be a party basher but your bong is cooking off plastic gasses from the hot stem....
Come to Alaska where Marijuana is legal and you won't have to grunge-craft your tools. Honest, weed IS legal here, and Amsterdam. Only two places in the world I know of. But it's a lot prettier here ~! LN |
