alright, so im looking for a decent camera($300 range is what im looking to spend)

but i also want to bring a camcorder so i can send videos back to the friends and family, i know there are a few cameras that do both, but they have been said to be a bit awkward to take pictures with

ive been looking at the TX1 Powershot by Canon it seems to be decent

just wondering what some of you have brought traveling/if you have anything to recommend that would be great

I've been doing some research into this lately. I have a Canon PS G9. It's video function is great - it shoots surprisingly good videos.

The question is, what do you intend to film. If it's messages for friends and family where you set up the camera (potentially on a small travel tripod), then speak into the camera and that's it, you're camera will be fine.

If you want to be able to shoot 'action videos', for which it is essential to bring up the video cam quickly and potentially also important to be able to shoot one handed, then there are a series of new 'mini cams'. The quality of the videos isn't astonishing, but at least you get the shot because it's easy to do so.

While most of the interview-type videos we'll probably do with the G9, we also want to be able to film while cycling...and one handed is quite essential if we want to do that. Wink I'm still debating (with myself) if we should get the new or the old Pure Digital Flip.
