I just read in the Sunday morning paper about how popular podcats are becoming, and have discovered Lonely Planet's podcast site. However, I am having trouble finding other travel related podcasts. What site do you use?

I have mixed feelings on podcasts.

On one hand, I view them as just another way for media to suck up my (rapidly dwindling) available free time.

On the other hand, I just really, really enjoyed a podcast on riding a Royal Enfield through India (from those LP guys) and now want more more more!

Rick Steves has an awesome podcast of his weekly NPR show. Since my local NPR affiliate doesn't carry the program, I download it and listen to it on my iPod.

I think I'm really missing something... I just don't get the excitement over podcasts.

Why not just download the episodes you want to listen to when you feel like listening to them? Having a subscription doesn't get you any more content than you would by downloading items at will, and just opens you up to cluttering your HD and/or audio player, or to wasting your time with episodes that don't interest you.

Okay, okay, maybe having your hard-drive cluttered isn't that big a deal, and maybe having a subscription IS more convenient, but it hardly strikes me as the wondrous revolution that so many people and media outlets make it out to be.

That said, I'll stop my whining briefly enough to suggest Dispatches. It's not specifically travel related, but discusses stories from around the world (often from "frogotten" places) usually from the perspectives of ordinary people.

Come to think of it, pretty much every one of the CBC programs offered as podcasts is worth listening to...

From my end its something to do while driving and walking to work.

I get sick of listening to the same music all the time. And having a new podcast that gets updated everyweek is a nice change.

Plus its a good change to listen to someone talk about thier holiday or advise on a particular destination rather than reading it all the time.

For me like Trackington, I enjoy listening to them on my way to uni or work...sometimes you want to listen to something other than music...
I also don't think they take up that much space on your MP3, in Itunes you can pick and choose which episodes you want to download so you don't need to listen to any unwanted podcasts.

I don't get it. Why would travelers who are traveling want to hear other travelers talk about traveling when we are already traveling?

What fills my empty mind whilst traveling are the wonderful podcasts from Selected Shorts.

I enjoy free podcasts from the online Slate Magazine. Especially the Slate Explainer.
