I recently bought the Eagle Creek Voyage 65L it has a main pack as well as a day pack. I was wondering if anyone has had a problem having two carryons. I would like to not check them in as one will be for clothes about 13kg and the other one for my camera, mp3, passport and snacks. Does anyone else have this type of backpack and have you had any problem bringing them both? Thanks

I don't understand your logic. Why can't you check in the 13kg clothes one? If it's because you don't want to be left without clean underwear if your bag gets lost - put one set of the essentials in your other bag. If you're superstitious that also has the advantage of stopping your bag from getting lost - it's like how it never rains when you have an umbrella
While you might get away with it if the flight isn't full - don't be an arse. There's a reason they have weight limits and your fellow passengers would like you to stick to the rules. |

You are allowed one carry-on and one personal bag.
If the main pack is within carry-on regulation size, then it shouldn't be a problem. |

I think that bag will probably be too big for a carryon. Not to mention weight restrictions for carry ons can be strict. I have a 50L pack that I check. I almost always check a bag anyway, there are things like toiletries more than 2 ounces and a pocket knife that I can't travel with as carry on items, they have to be checked. You can always carry a lightweight bag and put your essentials in that and carry that along with your daypack. I check in the backpack but carry on as much as I can.

I just flew home to the US for Christmas with Air New Zealand with only carry on luggage. The weight restriction is 7kg and they did check. It was actually 8kg and that was acceptable, but I doubt they would let 13kg go. I also had to weigh my carry on luggage at security at SFO on my way to my domestic flight. But to be fair, they did not weigh my "personal item", which was a tote type bag with my laptop. I think that it weighed more than 8kg to be honest, but i carried it like it weighed nothing.

A lot of non-US airlines don't allow the personal bag anymore, at least in theory. Often they don't enforce the rule, but sometimes they won't allow them. |

Thanks all for the info. I have the worst luck with airlines lossing my luggage! Living in the middle east, I tend to forget that most other airlines have strict baggage limits.

It varies a lot between airlines and the route they fly Quantas allows 2 bags to carry on domestic but only 1 plus a garment bag or handbag international - go figure!
