I'm starting to pack for my upcoming trip (8 months in Africa), and I realized that I have no clue what kind/size of backpack I'll need. I don't want anything too flashy or too big (I'm only 5'2"), and it needs to travel well, as almost the whole trip will be on train or bus. Any suggestions?

I am a big fan of Eagle Creek and you might want to look at their Maiden Voyage pack. (I use a Grand Explorer LT, even though I am not a grand explorer) Also, wander on down to MEC and look at their house brand of travel pack.

I have a 50L pack that is great. Anything bigger and it's just too heavy for me to carry around
