I was curious after finding this post on the Top Ten Expensive Essential Travel Gadgets.

Mine is probably my Swiss Army knife with the wine opener.

Wow, what a terrible list!

How about a freakin flashlight? Or maybe a sink plug? This list was created for selling you stuff at REI. (Besides, those solar backpacks are WAY too heavy. Clever, but heavy.)

My favorite travel gadget is still a frisbee...

I own one, and I've never found it heavy. Even on a three day hike. The panels don't weigh much of anything. My only complaints revolve around the slightly smallish main compartment and the lack of space for a water bladder.

cork screw Smile

I have never torn my hair out in frustration at the lack of anything but a cork screw. Now I never travel without one.

An Ipod. I never had one until my last trip and now I'm hooked. I don't think I will ever be able to travel again without the help of one!

Pocket knife with a corkscrew. Plus a bottle opener. If you have these, you can survive anything.

Oh yeah, I use that a lot - although I was pleasantly surprised to find that in Turkey, every hotel I was in already had one. That's a first!

Fair enough, but my buddy has one and it's too heavy (and small) for my taste. I'd rather carry one of theseand a real backpack. Or, you know, leave it at home and actually feel like I'm camping. Smile
