I am considering getting a camera. The Canon EOS 30D caught my eyes, I noticed it at a review site:

I do like it's excellent low-light performance and fast responsive. A decent deal the lowest price I can find for it is $800:
Has anyone had it? How it works?
I've always heard that Canon is the way to go. I would like to stay under $800. Any advice?? Thanks!

I personally wouldn't take anything that expensive. If the camera gets dropped or caught in the rain or anything like that...I would be very upset! I take a pretty cheap digital camera on my travels, and I bring a backup. I've never had a problem with poor quality pictures.

I had a 35mm SLR back in the day (still own it actually) but I no longer take it travelling. It's just too heavy and bulky and too much of a pain if I damage or lose it.

For the past three years I've used a Pentax Optio 33WR and loved it. It's waterproof, and has a nice solid design that makes it good for travel. I've subjected it to numerous drops, spills, swims and loads of general abuse and it's still alive and kicking.

They're a few generations ahead of this model now, but it's current analgoue is the W30.
