In general, I don't buy from online travel stores, I just window shop there...

Here are a couple:

Magellan's
Travelsmith

Generally, I buy my stuff from Campmor and REI (despite their Walmart-like business practices).

A lot of gear I get from Mountain Equipment Co-op. They're not dedicated to travel, so you can't get everything, but they do carry a lot of useful stuff for travellers. (Good, cheap packs, money pouchs etc.) Plus, all their in-house stuff (and they do their best for other items) are manufactured in ethical(safe, no children etc) and environmentally sound factories.

The only have stores in major Canadian cities, also sell online at mec.ca.

I always travel with disposable underwear. They're pretty cool and hardly take up any bag space. Checkout dnaproductsonline.com

I bought my pack at The Backcountry Store. I knew what I wanted but could not find the right size and so I went online and found it on sale and with free shipping. They have a ton of stuff and good descriptions and everything.

any one in the uk, Itchy Feet is a really good place to visit.

one branch in london, off tottenham court road, was really cool, had lots and lots of books, cool clothes, nice ppl that work there. i'm gonna go back when i start getting my stuff for my trip.

there's another branch in bath too.

www.itchyfeet.com

the website was really good too i thought. quite alot of advice (although they do make it seem like you have to have everything they're selling or your trip will be ruined!), but still, the website's abundant with advice and given me a starter list of what i'm taking with me.

Thanks Jude, I was just about to ask for a shop to look for in London.
I have decide that I may just leave Botswana with a gear bag stuffed with bare essentials and buy everything I need overseas.
With more variety, better quality and hopefully better prices, I hope to have better luck finding what I need on the other side of the world.

It has also been suggested that I try buy warm winter clothes from Oxfam, so between Itchy feet & Oxfam I hopefully wont break my budget.

I'll be arriving in LHR on the 5th Nov, then flying to Edinburgh for 2 weeks. I thought I would start my holiday in the coldest area first, then I'll visit my aunt somewhere in England (I have no idea where she is yet) then I'll go across to Ireland where I'll visit (& hopefully work) my best friend's family in Cleggan.
I'm sure you have suggestions.

you're flying straight from london to edinburgh? no break? the edinburgh flight, it'll go in a flash.

oxfam, you get them dotted all over the place. yeah, we specialise in warm lovely clothes here cause our winter lasts half the year!

michelle, glasgow is a great city. if you can get there you won't be disappointed.

and h&M is another relatively cheap clothes store. fashionable too. get some really good bargains. one on tottenham court road and edinburgh too i think.

not long now.. bet you're getting excited. i really hope you like your time here.

There's a shop in the UK with ridiculously cheap prices for quite nice clothes - Primark. I don't know how durable they are but when I go travelling I am going to shop there cos I'll only take clothes I don't mind getting wrecked.
