Could use some help, I'm currently in Belize in Placencia and will be here for another two weeks. After that we've got twenty more days on the vacation. we like the beach and the sun but also are interested in other things. Some options are tikal, bay islands, the cayes, or other parts of Belize/Guatemala.
Any info will help, thanks

There's a speedboat that goes from Dangriga to Puerto Cortes, Honduras, a couple of times a week. From there, it's an easy trip to La Ceiba and the Bay Islands, where you could dive or get a scuba certification.

Tikal is the most spectacular set of ruins in Mesoamerica, and easily accessible from Belize City.

Caye Caulker is relaxed, and a good place to laze about for a few days.

San Ignacio (Caya) is quite pleasant too, and on the way to Tikal.

You could smoke crack in Belize City too.

I don't suggest the crack smoking.

In the Cayo, there is a very interesting walk into a burial cave. Run by the locals and both very protected and very vulnerable. You hike to a river, ford it and go behind a waterfall to a cave. The cave is massive and there are skeletons slowly ossifying everywhere. They are not cordoned off or protected. They lie in situ and the guide makes damned sure that you aren't stepping on anything you aren't supposed to. Fascinating. The Cayo also features some good horseback riding, and there are some ruins nearby in almost every direction. If you are tired of the beach, this is the direction to go....and I second Felix, you can easily day trip to Tikal from here.

DO TIKAL - it's amazing and such a great experience...

I stayed in San Ignacio this past spring and got a ride to the Guate border with the man who ran my guesthouse...we walked across the border into Guate (what an experience!) and took a bus to Flores...stayed there overnight and then Tikal the next day...I recomment Flores - it's quaint and really quite relaxing...

Also if you want to see more of Tikal - you can buy a ticket at the main entrance after 3pm any given day...and that ticket is good for the next day as well...so you can see lots in 1.5 days...it's amazing..and then back to Flores to unwind and plan the next leg of your trip (i suggest down to Guate City with a stop at Lago Atitlan...)

this is your life; are you who you want to be? go where you want to go...small trips for now...but look out...www.wherescass.blogspot.com
