So I have my first draft of my itinerary for a month August 4th to Sept. 4th trip to Guatemala, Chiapas, and Belize. We won't be stopping everywhere some places I'm just naming because we will go thru. Also has anyone traveled during august what have been your experiences with the weather? Has anyone taken this route? is there anything I'm missing or is this too much?

Arive to Guatemala 2:45pm leave straight for Antigua
antigua (hike pacaya)
Chichicastenango
Lago Atilan (San Pedro?)
Xela
Comitan (Lagos de Montebello)
San Cristobal de las Casas (Day trip to Canyon Sumidero)
Palenque (Agua Azul Misol Ha)
Yaxcillan y Bonampak
Flores (Tikal)
San Ignacio
Caye Caulker
back to flores fly back to Guatemala City

Catch flight home.

You will be traveling during the rainy season (if we had a chamber of commerce they would call it the green season). You can expect 1-3 hours of rain every day, in the afternoon or evening. That means plan your outdoor activities for the mornings.

That is a doable itinerary, but it would be a little rushed for my tastes. Possibly save southern Mexico for another trip, or save Belize, but all three countries in one month is a lot.

If you cut caye caulker, san ignacio, and xela, you would have at least 6 slack days, which you WILL appreciate.

I'm glad you included Lagos de Montebello. I spent some good times with Dona Maria in her place, though she's probably dead or bedridden by now. If not, tell her David says hello.

Comitan is not worth the bother, really. IF Dona marias place or somewhere near the lagos are available, its a great experience. Comitan is, well, dusty, dirty, and not much there except buses to the lago, san cristobal, and the border.

If you want a purer temple experience with more time, cut out chichi, and keep Yaxchilan and Bonampak, but bus from Palenque.

How much time do you have in Atitlan? Do you want to stay in Pana for two-3 days and take a day trip to san pedro and around the lake, or stay in san pedro and relax?

When you hike Pacaya, sign up with a reputable tourist group, because it could be a risk. Check i Antiqua with the people that live there to see if violence on the volcano has increased or decreased. Same with the curfew hours and places to go in Antiqua.
