Try the El Mirador on Flores. Once you go through the narrow passage that is the road in to the heart of the town (Laundry lady on your right through the screen door). Turn right and walk along the cobblestone street. It's about halfway to the top of the hill past El Tucan. Good place. Nice set up. Pretty cheap. If you turn the other way. Left through the narrow passage. Most of the hotels on the water are more upscale. They get a view of the wider part of the Lago though. Either way. You don't need to reserve, or even worry. There will be a place for you and you can take your pick. Go and decide there.

Good luck.

Hey buddy. I suggest you try staying a bit in the small town of El Remate between Flores and Tikal. At least a night. Great little friendly town where the kids(and horses and hogs) play soccer on a muddy lakeside field all day then move to a field with lights after dinner. I stayed at the Hostal Hermano Pedro and the owner was super friendly and the rooms adequate and cheap (sporadic power and water but whatever, bring a flashlight). Warning: There's a farm next door so bring ear plugs! Watching the sunset over the lake though(Its on the opposite side from Flores)is an amazing experience. Also it's much closer to Tikal which I can't recommend enough getting too the moment they open! If you do you'll get a couple hours in with the spider monkeys and toucans before the tour busses show up from Flores and Belize and they all get scared away.
