Going to Belize for 7 days. I'm spending 5 days in Caye Ambergris but I'm looking to spend 2 days somewhere else within Belize or Guatemala. Any suggestions?

thanks

Go up to the Hummingbird Highway and stop at Ian Anderson's Caves Branch. You will do some incredible caving and eat wonderful meals. Granted I haven't been there for a few years but I doubt anything has changed. Google the name to find his website.
You will also be only five hours from Tikal Guatemala,an absolute must do visit. It will be the highlight of your whole trip.

tikal, guatemala! you can overnight in flores..

coming back from guatemala's border, you should consider staying the night at an eco lodge just outside the heart of san ignacio, the trek stop. probably one of my fave places to stay in all the countries i've been in!

Funny that you mention that, Xoom. A while ago I was researching for a post on The Trek Stop for Belizelogue. When I was searching through photos on Flickr, there you were!

That's actually happened a few times before. I've had BostonBill pop up in photo searches for Amsterdam, and others have appeared that I can't remember off hand.

And Dustin, I agree with the Tikal idea because it's probably the most important and interesting thing that you can do nearby, and it's a great (if a bit rough) contrast to Ambergris Caye.

Two days - not much time! Maybe head to West Belize to a jungle lodge? Better still - go to tikal in Guatemala - there's flights from San Pedro via Belize City with Tropic Air or Maya Air, and they're not to expensive, alternative arrange a package tour direct from San Pedro (Ambergris caye).

You can go to ATM

caracol

Tikal was mentioned...But I wouldn't overnight in Flores, I'd overnight in San Ignacio Belize instead and get an early ride out the next morning.

You can scuba/snorkle at the Blue Hole, although some of the best snorkeling there will be at Turneffe.

There is also all sorts of caving and tubing activities if you are into that sort of thing.

The mountain pine ride park also has a splendid waterfall, although not too worth the drive, but the Rio Frio Cave is on the way/way back from caracol.

Have fun and good luck.

I second the idea of Caye Caulker. It is an entirely different world from Ambergris Caye. It is extremely laid back and funky.

You only have two days, and almost any other place would require almost all of your time be spent traveling. You would need a vacation to recuperate from your vacation. You cannot help but relax on Caye Caulker.

My vote would be to fly frm San Pedro to Flores- see Tikal=bus back to San Ignacio and goto Atun Tunichil Muknal(incredible cave-I predict it won't be as accesible in the future)- bus back to BC.

Love The Trek Stop!! When I read this post I had to look up their website and see if my picture was still in the Guest Gallery (it is!) from 2000. I guess it’s time to go back and see what’s changed. I hope not the food. Sometimes my sister will still call me and say, “I wonder what Judy’s making for dinner?”.

I 2nd the suggestions about going to Tikal – it will blow you away!

You could also take a tour from Ambergris to Lamanai or go up into Crooked Tree and Orange Walk area or go up Belmopan to the Belize Zoo.
