Does anyone have any recommendations for some good hiking? I have 3 weeks and don't want to spend all of it at the beach! I've been to Mondeverde before and it was beautiful, but not really hiking.

I was wondering this too. Particularly if there's any good multi-day backpacking trips in Costa Rica. And if hiking/backpacking is safe without a guide or group in Costa Rica.

Check this... www.crrobs.org its the Outward Bound Costa Rica website. the folks there are a wealth of information even if you don't intend to take any courses. They take people more remote than most other guide company's. they also do custom trips.

ooter37 - you should be perfectly safe hiking anywhere - solo - in CR EXCEPT near the borders with Nicaragua or Panama. How near is near will be a matter of judgment. Areas of Both borders are inhabited by smugglers and other unsavory sorts.
