hi everyone,
I am being relocated to belize for work. As yet, thats pretty much all the info I have. I will be living in either Belmopan or B City (I am hoping the latter). I am finding it a little difficult finding info related to actually living in Belize, as opposed to vacationing and diving. Has anyone lived there, or been there for any extended amount of time?

I am interested in anything and everything - less the things to do and places to see around Belize, and more practicalities related to living there - is it an easy place to live? Easy to find accomodation (and what kind? apartments/houses?), is it a safe place to live? Easy to meet people? Is it important to have a car to get around? How affected are you by hurricanes etc (and when is that?)

Would really appreciate if anyone who's been there as a resident would get in touch.

Just as reference, I am a 32 year old woman who will be living alone for at least some of the time (it is as yet unclear when and for how long my boyfreind will join - not sure if that makes any difference?) I am currently living in south east asia - i work in international development. I have traveled and lived abroad a lot so I am fairly experienced, but belize seems likely to be pretty different to anywhere I have lived before!!

Thanks for anything you can advise me on.

I think you will love Belize.
Go to:www.belizefirst.com A wealth of information about living and vacationing in Belize. There is also a Belize Forum. Belize City is probably no the safest place to live but that may not mean that there are not areas close to the city that are better.

I have always found BZE a rough but amiable city. I think you will like the people there, who are charming, if a little shifty on occasion. BZE is preferable to Belmopan only because Belmopan is damned dull. But I think you can make it work in both places.

I envy you. Sounds like a lucky break on your part.
