I'm heading to Guatemala in December for about three weeks. Aside from the obvious main mayan ruin destinations does anyone have any fantastic hikes or hidden beaches I should be contemplating? Where are your favorite markets and highland villages?

Take the lancha across Lago De Peten from Flores and walk through the town of San Andres up the hill to the campo del futbol and then turn right and take a walk around the lake. A few small towns and some interesting folk with no urge to stick a shiv in your ribs. Can't beat that. Also the view is nice and the lake is always there when you get hot.
