If you had six days and airfare wasn't an issue, which would you choose?

1. Arrive in Roatan, dive/snorkel for 2 days. Take the overnight bus to Copan and fly out of San Pedro Sula

2. Arrive in Panama City and head out to Boca del Toro for the entire trip

3. Arrive in Buenos Aires (much longer flight from the U.S.) and take the ferry over to Uruguay and have a look

Of the 3, I've only been to Honduras, so maybe my vote won't count. It's a great option, though! If you can swing the cost of an open jaw ticket, I'd fly into San Pedro Sula (SAP), bus to Copán for a couple of nights, bus back to San Pedro Sula, fly to Roatán for the rest of your days, and fly home from there. I'm pretty sure there isn't an overnight bus, plus ending your trip in Copán means you're 3 hours by bus from the airport so would have to leave 5-6 hours before your flight (which rules out morning flights home) or spend your last night in San Pedro Sula (yuck).

My photos and travelogues are below if you're interested. Keep us posted!

I would take option one, especially if you hadn't done it before.

Thanks for the votes. I think Honduras is the plan. We'll have to do Roatan first and then fly out of San Pedro Sula because there isn't a flight out of Roatan on the day we come back. Also, I don't want to get to close to the diving 24 hours before you fly cut off.

My LP said there was a 10:00 pm bus from La Cebia to Copan, connecting in San Pedro Sula, but it was probably written by Thomas Kohnstamm so I guess I need to double check Wink

If airfare wasn't an issue, I'd spend an extra couple of days on Roatan and fly from there to SAP or fly from Roatan to La Ceiba and spend a couple of days in the Tela area.

carriel313,

I would definitely rethink traveling at night in Honduras, especially if it involves San Pedro Sula (which is the pits).
There have been several buses robbed in that area lately, especially at night. Most of the better bus companies don't travel at night due to bandits, people driving without lights, drivers passing on hills and/or curves, rock slides or wash outs that can't be seen soon enough at night, etc.

Hedman Alas bus company has had no robberies, that I have heard of. We have had good experiences with them, and they cover the areas you speak of.

If you do decide to go to Copan Ruinas, come back on and I will tell you about several good places to stay, as well as a couple of restaurants we have enjoyed.
