So a friend of a friend told me to check out Bocas. I have a mere two weeks off in January and am rallying a posse to check it out.

1) What's the best and cheapest way to get there?

2) Is it worth me checking out or should I go somewhere else?

I've already been to Honduras, Guatemala and Belize so they're out and Costa Rica sounds a little rich for my blood. Anything you could share'd be great!

I'm just researching a trip like you (never been), but if you fly into Panama City (PTY) then you can either get to Bocas by bus or plane. Apparently, you would take a bus to David and then to Bocas from there. However, a plane might not be a bad deal to save you a day of chicken bus travel. Aeroperlas.com operates domestic flights in Panama for under $50 each way. Not bad considering that I understand the bus ride would be between $15 and $25.
