Hi everyone,

I am new to the board and looking for some information regarding my trip to Belize and Guatemala at the end of the month.

I am curious about the different bus companies traveling from Belize City to Flores and their departure times.

Safety, Travel Time, Bus comfort and Air Conditioning are my number one concerns. Are there any other companies besides the chicken bus companies I have discovered?

Do any of you Traveling Vets have any info on the bus companies traveling between BC and Flores?

Best,
Adam

there were three of us when we went.. split a taxi from belize city to the border. that came out to be i think $40USD per person, didn't take too long. then from the border, we walked into melchor and just waited at the round-about and grabbed a colectivo. that dropped us off to this spot a while later (very bumpy road btw) with a lot of tuk-tuk's, so we crammed in one and crossed the long bridge into flores. i'm not sure how efficient that was.. lol but that's how we got there! we pretty much just winged it and figured that route out as we went along it. took us a little over half a day. i'm sure you could find easier alternatives though!

From the Belize City Marine Terminal, you can take a luxury bus or van by Linea Dorada or San Juan Travel. I would recommend LD. Otherwise take a chicken bus to the border and another to Flores. You'll save a lot of money and the ride ain't bad (There are no scary downhills with curves!)

Thanks for the info guys.

I think I read somewhere that the Linea Dorada bus only leaves to Flores once a day, t I think 9:30am...Unfortunately My flight does not arrive until 10:30.

Hopefully I have the wrong info here, and there is more than one bus per day.

your info is, unfortunately, correct.....sorry, but that linea dorada bus is just the one stop.
get to flores however you can, yes, there is a bit of a bumpy part just after the border crossing, but once you are past that short adventure, better, much better adventures await!

At the main bus terminal in Belize talk to the guy who runs the concession stand (to the right of where buses pull in). He helped us find a taxi that was $70USD to the border (total price for 4 of us). ~2 hours

When you cross the border you'll find a mix of taxis and buses that will happily take you to flores. No many transport options are available in the evening. The stretch or road immediately after the border in dangerous at night. Livestock is frequently hit and there are plenty of burachos.

Good luck and have fun.

thanks for all your info guys...I was hoping to possibly catch a ride on a charter plane too, but it seems flights between Belize and Guatemala have been suspended. Bummer...that would have been a great way to see the landscape.
