Can anyone who is in Guatemala and/or Honduras tell me what is the current exchange rate for USD on the street? ie at the airport or border crossings.

Is it better to exchange Quetzals for Lempira or is the rate better for USD to Lempira?

Will I get a better exchange rate through an ATM at the Guatmala City Airport, through official currency exchange or wait til I get outside the airport?

Not sure what the current exchange is, but when I was there, for Guate at least, it was better to wait till you got outside - there were always people there to convert money, especially from Honduran money to Guatemalan money, or vice versa...I would have a little of the local money for the first country that you're headed to - and then the rest in USD - you can convert to your hearts content once you get there, and save yourself the bank fees that your bank (and likely the local bank) will charge you!!

at the moment you got for one us$ like 7.8 quetzal, but the economy is not good and it changes every day. always it is better to change in a new country with dollasr, so try to get rid of your quetzal before you go to hunduras.
the only street exchange guys i met was on the the border between mex and guate. maybe in livingston you cane find some or on the lake atitlan(guate). unfortunatly i dont know honduras. for guatemala i change in the bank
