I'm curious about airfare among the central american countries. I saw a previous post about TACA air, but I'm wondering if there are alternatives. I will likely be flying from costa rica to honduras and if I go with TACA I will have to make numerous stops. There must be more airlines there that operate more direct flights. Can anybody suggest? Thanks

Never use must when talking about CA. TACA is the dominant airline in the region, but they tend to follow chicken bus schedules to match their service and maintenance procedures. They are also bastards about onward ticket requirements. The vast majority of locals never fly so TACA knows it's mainly servicing one off tourists who most likely will never return. So they schedule what is best for them. Developing loyal customers is far from their minds. Best you can hope for is to scan their web site for sales. It won't reduce the stops but at least save some money. Fares tend to be high. Given the relatively short distances Tica bus is a good option. Savings are considerable and at least you will see something along the way.

TACA has treated me pretty well, and the added plus is that you get United FF miles.
On the other hand, that two-stops-required-to-get-to-Bogota thing blows.

Mmmm, have you flown out of San Jose airport recently? Over Christmas the place was packed with Ticos going to Florida for Xmas and to buy cheap goods. Same thing last time I flew to Panama, mostly Ticos.

Other than TACA, which have always treated me well, try:

You could also check American and Continental, which flies out of San Jose but I don't know of they ever have a stopover in any other LA country.

Copaair! Genious! Direct flights, and cheaper than TACA. Thank you
