We spent 5 nights at Journey'sEnd on Ambergris Caye in February-2004 on our honeymoon and were downgraded from an oceanfront to a garden view cabana after booking months in advance. A group of high school students booked 5 rooms and they wanted to keep the group together, so they stayed in our honeymoon ocean view room! It was almost 2 hours to check-in, the food is very bland, boring, served cold and overpriced, a service charge is included in everything but they don't tell you and happily accept your tips, website says you can drink the water but you can’t (even the staff doesn’t drink it because of the high sulfur content), they charge you twice what you would pay elsewhere for bottled water which you’re stuck buying there, the ocean front rooms are so far from the ocean that you can’t see the ocean, the dive shop overcharged us and it took an hour to resolve, management is around when your happy but they disappear when you have a complaint, maid service is sporadic, the entire resort has plumbing problems, you can’t swim at their beach because the sea grass is dangerous, they website advertises a beautiful artificial reef but it’s made of tires and garbage, website advertises room service but there are no phones in the room so you can’t order room service.

I should add that the second part of our trip was fabulous. We spent 4 nights at The Maruba Jungle Resort & Spa, which was absolutely incredible. It's the most exotic, beautiful and unique place I've ever stayed and I highly recommend it!

Gotta say, I am surprised at the problems you had. San Pedro is so small, it's easy to find what you are looking for if you don't find it right where you are standing. I know that they are throwing a lot of new hotels up and I believe that not all of them are scrupulous, but you could have backed out and then found one of the other hundred cool places to go. Sorry your honeymoon didn't work out that well.

Okay...Where next...?
