I am currently financing my time in guatemala by working a bit as I go. The hotel that I am currently working at, Isla Verde in Santa Cruz del Lago Atitlan, is one of the most beautiful places I have spent time at. For those of you who have spent time at the lake already, and for those of you who haven´t, it is one of the most sacred spaces in Guatemala and it´s always nice to spend time without spending any money. Right now the hotel is looking to move in a more sustainable direction and we are looking for some folks with some experience in permaculture gardening to come and spend a few weeks working in our gardens. Accomodations and food are free while you are working. The cabins are beautiful, the food is bomb, and Santa Cruz has quickly become one of my favorite villages on the lake. If you are interested, we are asking for a two week commitment, although this is negotiable. Please email ana@islaverdeatitlan.com and check out the hotels website at www.islaverdeatitlan.com

also, any other working in central america advice I am open to giving. It´s really really easy.

actually, the hotel is almost all guatemalan run, the owner pays for classes for her employees to learn anything they want to, even when it doesn´t benefit the hotel. because it is a newer hotel, her employees are still learning english although they are bilingual in spanish and kakchikel, which is part of the job of working here (teaching english). until then, she needs managers that speak both english and spanish and for this post specifically is looking for a permaculture expert. this is one site we have posted on, but of course we would prefer to hire someone from guatemala.

thanks for your concern, though. it´s really all about working together and learning from each other.
