Gday,

I a 24yr old Irish guy planning on travelling to Sydney for a year in Jan08. I am going for the work more so than the traveling although i would like to travel the east coast for a month first.
I will probably be working for the same employer for the year and would stay longer if i was happy and work was going well.
A 1yr holiday visa will not suit because i can only work with an employer for a period not longer than three months.
Is there such a thing as an emigration visa and if so how difficult would it be to get.
How would i go about it?

Any advice would be really appreciated...

Cheers HeHe

I would come out on the working holiday visa and then sort out another visa if things work out. If your employer likes you enough they might be willing to help with the visa. He may also have more than one company that you can work for without really changing jobs. You also might find that you would like to work for a few people as you travel around. You might also change your plans once you get here so investing in a migration visa or other may turn out to be a waste of money.

Hi Corky, Your best bet is to apply for a WHV. Information
Here.

A work visa issued under a Working Holiday Scheme is valid for 12 months.

You will need to open an Australian bank account. There are several bank chains which will do fine -Commonwealth, ANZ, Westpac and National.

When you leave Oz, you will need to arrange with the bank to have all remaining balances transferred, and then the account to be closed permanently.

Good luck and have a great time in Oz. Thumbs Up
