Hi, I know that we've just missed the early bird for the NZ ski pass but just started thinking about it now. Basically, we'll be flying from Chile to Auckland mid-Sep and will be staying for 6 weeks, we reckon we'd like to have the option of doing a couple of weeks on the slopes.

Will there still be snow and if so should we buy some kind of ski-pass now or should we leave it to buy day-passes in September? Also, on an off-chance, does anybody have any recommendations for ski-ing snowboarding in Argentina or Chile in early September?

The NZ ski season runs to about October on the SI and usually longer in the NI, so you should be able to find some decent snow when you arrive. I would suggest getting multi day passes when you arrive. You can get passes that will cover several resorts in an area so you can get more variety.

If it's any help, my favorite ski areas in NZ were The Remarkables in Queenstown, and Treble Cone in Wanaka.

I found Coronet Peak to have poor snow and Mt Hutt to have a lame vibe.

But hey, you can never complain when you're given the opportunity to ski in September!
