Im flying out to Oz end of May and I've just booked my flight with China Airways. At first I thougt as long as I get the cheapest flight I don't care cuz I'm going to Oz, but now after reading stories of shoe prints on toilet seats, I'm starting to get a lil bit concerned. firstly- am I just over-reacting?, second...does anyone have any tips to suviving a China Airways flight? Help Cheers

I haven't flown with them ex Oz, but I've flown with them a few tomes in China and have had no problems, courteous service, smooth flights. Their fleet seems quite new. Perhaps you could request that passengers remove their shoes before using the toilets.

I haven't flown them to and from Australia, but with the eleven flights I took in SEAsia last fall - the flight I took on China Airways was the nicest by far. (Well, except for the Thai airways flight were I got bumped to first class Big Grin).

I bet you'll be fine. Have fun!!

When you hear stories make sure they are getting it right. China Airlines is a Taiwanese company. Air China is a mainland company. people often get confused. There is no China Airways as a company name so there is confusion already.

I was talking about China Airlines (thanks for pointing out the difference!). I flew them on a Taipei-Bangkok and back route and it was lovely. The planes were very new, the food was good, everyone was nice and we were on-time. Can't beat it!

Especially after the flight I'd taken to Taiwan on EVA Air. I've vowed to avoid them from now on.

I have never flown Air China internationally but have used them extensively for domestic travel and there are no complaints from me. They are the most realiable, schedule wise, in my travels and always have clean up to date aircraft (a mix of Boeing and Airbus).
You will always passengers who dont do the right thing and it wouldnt matter who's aircraft you were on they would the same thing.
Shoe prints on toilet seat may not be an exageration but if it worries you take some 'wet-wipes' with you to clean the seat irresepective of whether it has shoe prints. I am sure the cabin staff would clean it for you if you found that to be the case and pointed it out to them.
This issue would not stop me from chsing an airline. i would be more interested in stories regarding the age of their aircraft and servicing concerns (A US airline just pulled all of its 777 out of service for a safety check that should have been completed - as an instance)

I've taken China Airlines on three international trips. No complaints here. Service is excellent.
