My boyfriend and I plan to travel in Fiji for 4 full days on our move from the US to Sydney. We arrive in Nadi. I want to experience true Fijian culture and catch a glimpse at some beautiful white sand beaches. Suggestions on an itinerary to pack as much in as possible?

For true Fijian culture, I wouldn't really head to the popular Mamanucas or the Yasawas all though you will certainly have you fair share of perfect white sand beaches. We stayed at Oarsman and never left the sand. We also stayed 4 days on Kadavu, which is a 45 minute flight south of Nandi at Matava resort. THere was no real beach (unless it was low tide) but it couldnt have been the more perfect vacation. Being on that island without any roads or anything where you can just hike around villages and meet locals, really was an incredible experience. There is an island that is about a 10 minute kayak across from the resort (they have kayaks) that has a beautiful beach. Kadavu is surrounded by the Astrolab reef which has ridiculous scuba and snorkeling and world class deep sea fishing. There is no electricity and it certainly is not a party hostel, however. The resort is affordable and the people who run it are incredibly warm and the food is very excellent as well. we could not recommend it more and are figuring out ways to return.

Agreed - Kadavu is absolutely beautiful. Stayed at Matava as well, and would definately recomend it, but really only if you're into diving, snorkling or kyacking.

It really depends on the kind of trip you're looking for: busy or relaxed, culture, chill or dive/kyack, etc.

But get out of Nadi, nothing there except a place to stay before your flight.

If you're moving to Sydney you'll see lots of beaches. Stopping in Fiji - check out the culture and the coral. The Astrolabe reef is amazing. There's some villages which are walking distance from Matava, if you're interested in Kadavu.

I've been to Fiji twice, and both times have had just the best time!

The cool thing about it too, is that there are things for every type of traveller, and if you want to switch it up half way or whatever, you can do that too (i.e. a week of diving, then busy Suva life to see museum's, then village visit, then chill on the beach.)

A great way to see the country side, if you're interested, is to take the local bus which runs around the entire main island of Viti Levu - it's slow, but worth it, if it's your scene. Nadi, north (via Ba) to Suva.. I think it took about 7 hours... 'ish.
