To those who have done a WHV in New Zealand, I'm trying to gauge how far my money is going to get me. I do plan to work while I'm there, but will likely settle in cities for a couple months at a time, rather than wander and do farm work, etc. I guess I'll do 1 month travel for every 3 months working. How much money did you go in with, how much did you make while there, and how much did you have when you left? Thanks in advance...

Hi, I have been in new zealand for 5 months now and have spent 2000gbp. I have worked 3 months of the 5 on vineyards and on a farm I also smoke and like a drink (too much) I reckon if you don't smoke and drink every night you could easily survive on $50nz a day. hope this helps.

Hi
On the farm I was on $13 hr & free accomodation and on the vineyards it pays $12hr. Yes I have spent more than $50 day but as I said I smoke about $10 a day and like a drink which probably adds to $100 wk yikes!!!! & I've shopped way too much. If you dont smoke or drink you can easily survive on $50 day. The average cost of an hostel is $18-$24 nite or $115 wk if its a working one.
