Has anyone done the campervan thing with their dog? My husband and I are thinking of doing 4-6 weeks around New Zealand, but we really want to be able to take our mutt.

Will van rental companies allow you to have your dog?

Also, how dog-friendly are the trails in NZ? Would love to go exploring with the pooch in tow.

Where are you coming from? The reason I ask is because of the customs laws. Animals from certain places require a lot of time in quarantine.

I'll be coming from Singapore. I think Singapore is one of the countries with little to no quarantine time! Fingers crossed.

Do make sure to check, since NZ is pretty strict on what comes into the country.

Can't answer about the camper vans letting you bring along your dog, but there are a lot of national parks and other scenic reserves that don't allow dogs in. Dogs in general do a lot of damage to the kiwis and other flightless birds, so they aren't allowed in. I have seen some where they are allowed as long as they are kept on a leash.

Hello Papaya,
As TripDiva posted , there will be trail areas where you will not be allowed to take a dog.
From a quick look, most campervan companies here will not allow dogs, with the exception of "seeing eye" dogs.
You would also find that some campgrounds will not allow dogs, so it could be a bit of a restriction on your travels.
I think you are correct on there being no quarantine for dogs from Singapore, providing they meet certain criteria.
