Could anyone out there tell me how feasible in New Zealand it is for a traveller to get a paying job? I would like to use WWOOF as a foot in the door but think it'd be great to find a job where I could make some money to get to my next destination.

go to NZ's immigration site and apply for a working holiday visa. I assume youre an american. It will be free for you and you'll get approved in less than a week online. This will allow you to legally work in NZ.

Hey, it is pretty easy to get a job in New Zealand as long as you're a hard worker that likes to have fun... Have you any experience working back home? Where are you travelling from? It totally depends on what kind of work you're searching for, how long term it will be and where you intend to base yourself. WWOOF is an awesome program (for both the environment and your own enjoyment). Travellers can often get paid for short term work picking and packing seasonal fruit. I'm not sure what the working conditions are like at orchards but the great thing is - you can readily get jobs for 1 or 2 months at a time and get some $ for doing it. You will need a visa to do this - will you be applying for one?

Thanks for the tips. I'm an American in New York right now. I consider myself to be a hard worker and I've already obtained a visa. My plan is to fly out there in November; maybe this is a good time to start searching for a job. I will most-likely start calling WWOOF hosts in NZ asking if they'll have room for me then.
