So I'm traveling with my University this summer to Thailand for a week, but afterwards, I'm staying behind with 2 other people to travel overland to Cambodia and Vietnam, and then I'll be flying back to Bangkok (where our return tickets to the States are, and all of our stuff will be stored) from Vietnam. How will the VISA work? Do I need one? I'll only be in Bangkok another 2-3 days after my flight from Vietnam. How do tourist things work for Americans there? Will I just be let in?

I'm sorry for asking such an easy question for you all probably, but I'm just new to this...

Thanks so much!!

US citizens can enter Thailand without a visa.
Two short visits will be no problem

You can get up to 3 thirty day entries without needing a visa. Each entry will cost $30.

Thailand is always changing the rules but essentially this is how it goes.

You get a free 30 day visa upon entry. You can get 3 of those for a maximum stay of 90 days. In reality, you can come in and out as often as you want as long as you don't exceed 90 days. You can extend that visa for 2 weeks for 2,000 baht as long as it doesn't exceed the original 90 day period.

After 90 days, you need to apply for a 60 day tourist visa (about 30 bucks) outside the country. Then you can go back in. You can also extend that visa for 30 day for 2,000 baht. However this is single entry, so once you leave the country, that visa is no longer vaild, even if you use less than 90 days.
