Holds PhD in Packing
Posted
Hi All,

I'm trying to figure out where to stay in HCMC. The husband and I aren't picky, we'd just like our own room and someplace clean and friendly. Any places come to mind? AC is a bonus, but not a necessity. Thanks!

You'll be fine staying in the Pham Ngu Lao area. The alleys are full of really cheap backpacker places, but along the road facing the park there are several nice enough hotels, clean, with AC if you want and with various facilities.

After roughing it in Cambodia, I had decided to splurge a bit accommodation-wise in Saigon. So when I saw these nice hotel facades, I went in and got a really nice room. And I was pleasantly surprised when it came to only about US$15 per night for a single room, including CNN and breakfast. I think it was the Giant Dragon Hotel.

Happy trails!

I stayed at the Yellow House Hotel and the Grand Hotel. If you have lots of money the Grand is pretty cool but its like 150 a night, I only stayed there as part of a tour and then when the tour ended I stayed at the Yellow House.

The Location was close to alot, but its in the backpacker area, if you have no problem with that then its a great place.

Super cheap, relatively clean, it had AC but you had to ask them to "fix" it for you. I think they purposely don't have them hooked up unless you ask, if you have any problems with your room, be sure to ask them to fix it. They will fix it but if you don't ask there will probably be a few things wrong.

Fresh towels every day as well as tooth brushes and soaps are nice too in a cheap place like that

It cost me 10.50 CAD per night.

I stayed at Miss Loi's too. It was great - just close enough to the hustle and bustle to be convenient, but far enough away for some peace and quiet.
