Hi there, I`m going to Malaysia and I would like to know, if it is necessary to bring hiking boots for treking in the jungle in Malaysia - Taman Negara NP and Borneo. Is it not enough just some trainers?
Thanks for your help.

I wore trainers in Taman Negara and they were more than adequate. Hiking boots are probably unnecessary there unless you plan on carrying a heavy backpack.

Just started doing some trekking here in Borneo myself - I find velcro Teva-style sandals work well because it doesnt matter if you get your feet wet crossing a stream and they are cooler, but trainers might be good if you are heading somewhere with leeches. I think heavy sturdy hiking boots are definitely overkill, unless you intend to climb Kinabalu, where it can get cold and steep. You'll probably be fine with trainers. If you're coming to Borneo, I highly recommend Bako National Park, outside of Kuching. Great wildlife and a variety of trekking. Best of luck!
